SUMMER READING EXPECTATIONS
At OPS, we know that creating lifelong readers and lifelong learners is one of our biggest goals. Learning does not end as June comes to a close. Learning is something we do every day, all year long. Encouraging our students to read and to use their talents to share what they have read will be an expectation this summer. All students entering grades 1-6 are expected to complete a reading log and one creative project. They should bring both items to share with their classroom and school community on the
second day of school. Student reading projects will line the hallways during the first two weeks of school.

Learn More About The Different Lenses
Each of the different suggestions for summer reading projects falls within a different learning style. These choices encourage students to explore, strengthen and share what they see through their unique lens. This will be the exciting, new theme for the 2017-2018 school year!
The Artistic Lens - Some learners like to create visual images to represent their learning. They see and think in pictures. They lean toward music and art to represent their ideas.
The STEM Lens - Some learners like to research, calculate, design and build to express an idea. They enjoy projects focused on science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
The Writing Lens - Some learners are most comfortable with words. They thrive when they can create an original story, craft a poem or write to explain.
The Social Lens - Some learners enjoy talking to learn. They like to make text-to-self and text-to-world connections and enjoy verbal interaction with others.
